Wednesday Season 2 Release Date Netflix 2024: The Wednesday Season 2 can’t come soon enough, and luckily, with the actors and writers’ strike ending before the end of 2023, it looks like Season 2 is moving along quickly. As reported by Deadline, the hit Netflix series is all set to begin filming in a new location in late April 2024. According to the outlet, production will move from Romania to Ireland.
According to an earlier report from Variety, Netflix was prioritizing two shows coming out of the WGA strike: Wednesdays and Stranger Things. This should not surprise anyone. These are two of the biggest English-language Netflix shows. With Squid Game season 2 already in the works, The Wednesday Season 2 and Stranger Things season 5 officially coming to film is a big win for Netflix.
Variety claimed that “writing the script and filming the second season of Wednesday” is “top-of-the-line” for the streamer. This is good news, considering that fans are already waiting and waiting for Season 2. Not all Netflix shows will be as lucky to get priority due to the writers and actors strike.
After renewing it on Wednesday for Season 2 in January 2023, Netflix has not shared many updates regarding the second season. The cast, crew, and creative teams—among them Jenna Ortega, Tim Burton, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and others—have provided all of the significant updates. Many familiar faces are also returning in the new season. We also know that Jenna Ortega is returning as Wednesday Addams in Season 2 and will now take on the role of producer on the series.
We’ll update this story as Netflix shares more details about Wednesday Season 2. The latest update was on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Wednesday Season 2 Teaser
Wednesday season 2 Release Date Netflix 2024
As of November 2023, filming of Season 2 has not begun, although the above good news about production suggests when cameras may start rolling. According to Deadline, the series will move from Romania to Ireland, where the first season was filmed. Shooting for the second season is expected to begin next spring, possibly in April 2024.
Before this exciting post-strike development, we had some updates that suggested production could begin in late 2023, if the strike ended early. Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed this summer that production of Season 2 was expected to take place in the fall. Obviously, this never came to fruition as the WGA strike lasted until September and the SAG-AFTRA strike lasted until November.
Na Ortega’s availability may be another factor added to the pressure of producing Season 2. Rumors have begun to circulate that Scream 7 has a filming start date of early spring, possibly March 2024. Of course, Ortega starred as Tara Carpenter in the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise.
As rumors suggest, Ortega’s role in Scream 7 may be reduced so he can film Wednesday, potentially taking precedence over any of his other projects. Filming on Scream 6 lasted approximately three months, and if that schedule continues, Ortega will likely only be available for about two months. Then, we have to wait until the official report is announced.
According to reports, the cast and crew began production of the first season in the fall of 2021 and finished in Romania in the spring of 2022. That was essentially the schedule we were looking at for Wednesday Season 2, as the season was published seven or eight months after production completed. We will know more about the production timeline once production begins.
For a time, a 2024 release date for Season 2 seemed not only possible, but probable. Now, we’re in mid-November, and it’s looking more and more likely that the second season may not arrive until 2025. For some time, we thought that Wednesday Season 2 would be released in late 2024.
This is still technically possible, but with production starting in late April 2024, the release date may get pushed back. Allowing a few months for filming and adding additional time for post-production would make it difficult for Netflix to release the series in 2024. A lot of work still needs to be done with pre-production. Production, post-production and promotion for the show are expected to bring it to Netflix before 2025.

Tim Burton is returning for season 2
In September 2023, Tim Burton, who directed the first four episodes of Wednesday’s first season, confirmed in an interview with the BFI that he would return in some capacity for Wednesday season 2.
I mentally put things on hold until all the strikes are over. I can edit and do the things I can do, but by the time the curtain goes down, things are back to square one. But yes, I will be involved in some way or the other. I’m not exactly sure, because everything is stopped at the moment.
Burton didn’t share many details because the WGA and SAG are on strike, but we should know more about his role when AMPTP offers the WGA and SAG unions deals they can accept.

There are some Wednesday characters who will not be returning for Season 2. It’s unclear whether Gwendoline Christie will return. Her character, Principal Weems, was killed off in the finale, so it’s TBD whether she’ll return. We sure hope Christy joins Season 2! Christina Ricci, who played Laurel Gates/Marilyn Thornhill, is not expected to return for season 2.
There are also some rumors that Lady Gaga will be joining the cast of Season 2, but this has not been confirmed. Such a big casting would be major, major news. We’ll just have to wait and see if Netflix is able to do something like this!
It also appears that there are some talks to include Christopher Lloyd in Season 2. Lloyd originally played Uncle Fester on The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. Here’s what Lloyd told Yahoo! Entertainment. I have heard rumors that I might come. I’m not sure how, but I think Ortega is amazing
As for potential new casting in Wednesday Season 2, co-showrunner Miles Miller teased even before the renewal that additional members of the Addams Family could appear in additional seasons. Speaking to TV Line, he said he “felt like we’d just touched the surface with those characters” in the first season. And of course, with Wednesday being the focus again in season 2, we can expect the family members to play an important role as well.
Other memorable Addams Family characters we could potentially see in Season 2 include Cousin It, Grandmama, Purbert Addams, Debbie Zelinsky, and more. We can’t wait to see who joins the second installment! Mamma Meyers, Hunter Doohan and Joey Sunday read fan theories during TUDUM 2023. At the end of the video, he confirmed a theory that a new member of the Addams Family will be in Season 2!
Is Percy Hynes White in Wednesday season 2?
Trigger Warning: Sexual Assault
Actor Percy Hines White, who played Xavier on Wednesday, was in the news earlier this year after being accused of sexual harassment. White, 21, was surrounded by allegations in January after a Twitter user said she was attacked at a party the actor was hosting with other women in Toronto. In response to the claims, White made a statement via her Instagram Story months later in June:
The rumors are false. I cannot accept that I should be portrayed as a fanatic or someone criminally negligent of people’s safety. These kinds of damaging, unfounded allegations are what can make victims suspicious of one another. It is heartbreaking to learn that people have been distressed by this false information. I sincerely appreciate everyone that supported me and assisted in getting the word out.
Kindly put a halt to harassing my friends, family, and coworkers. I am appreciative of your time spent reading this. Fans of Wednesday are therefore curious as to whether or not White will be let go from the Netflix series. We will have to wait and watch when the streaming provider releases the official cast list as there has been no word as of yet regarding their whereabouts on the show.
That said, the Daily Mail ran a report on September 4 claiming that White had been “kicked out” of the show because of the allegations. They credit “industry insiders” for their information, although Netflix has not acknowledged or refuted this.
Wednesday season 1 ending
At the end of the first season, Wednesday revealed that Tyler was actually the Hyde Monster, and that he was being controlled by Ms. Thornhill, also known as Laurel Gates, who was believed to be responsible for his death. She was taking revenge on Nevermore. Family members. But, it goes deeper than that. There’s even more history between the Addams family and the Crackstones, which is why Laurel Gates brings Joseph Crackstone back from the dead to destroy Nevermore and everyone there.
Thankfully, Wednesday, Enid (who eventually gets out!), and the gang solve the mystery, stop Crackstone, Tyler, and Laurel, and save the day, but there are a few casualties, including fan-favorite Principal Weems. Are included.

What’s next in season 2?
For a minute, it looked like Wednesday Season 2 wasn’t necessarily going to be a continuation of the Season 1 finale. Most of the major storylines were over. Yes, Tyler had escaped, but Laurel was dead and Crackstone had been defeated. Wednesday has some work to do to make up for some of the damage he suffered during the investigation, but his emotional outburst ends on a high note with his hug and friendship with Enid.
At the last minute, Wednesday is sent threatening text messages from a man who has been stalking her since she arrived at Nevermore, which appears to set the stage for Season 2. who is this person? Why are they threatening him?
The identity of this person and Tyler’s disappearance will likely be a major focus of Season 2, but I don’t think the creative team will stop there. I think there will be even more surprises and more Addams Family stuff to explore in Season 2. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait quite a long time to find out what will happen in the new season. According to Ortega, we got a little hint of what might be down the road.
Speaking with Fallon on The Tonight Show, Ortega hinted that there may be more horror and less romance in Season 2. Here’s what he said: I think we want to amp up the horror factor a little bit and then take Wednesday out of the romantic situation and let her become her own person and fight her own guilt.
Wednesday’s first season quickly became popular, and many fans began to ship Wednesday and her roommate, Enid. The two girls did not get along well at first, but by the end of the season they became close friends and Jenna Ortega stated that she was in favor of a romance between the characters.
During an interview with Variety, Enid actress Emma Myers was asked about a possible romance between the two characters, in which she shared: “Anything is possible on the show. We haven’t really talked about direction at all, so I don’t really know what the game plan is for anything. However, Myers further explained that he thinks Wednesday should be single in Season 2:
As far as Wednesday’s love interests go, I think she needs to take a season of loneliness for at least the second season. He had a whole falling out with his men, he needed to put an end to it for a bit. If I had gone through that, I would have avoided dating anyone.
Many people (including Ortega) were disappointed by the fact that the show put Wednesday in a love triangle in the first season, so we’ll be curious to see what her love life is like in the second. When Ortega shares these tidbits about Wednesday Season 2, we should listen because, according to Elle, in addition to starring as Wednesday Addams in the new season, she’s also going to be a producer on the new season.
How many episodes are in Wednesday season 2?
We’re expecting there to be eight more episodes in Wednesday Season 2. Netflix has not yet confirmed that information, but it was rumored that the series would be ordered for eight episodes, just like the first season.
Right now, there’s a season one and a second season of the hit Netflix original in the works on Netflix. According to Variety, Wednesday showrunners and creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough confirmed that they initially planned to make three or four seasons of the series:
We constantly have an eye toward the future, and when we sit down to produce a show, we ideally consider several seasons at a time. Though it was unexpected, perhaps the show will be a hit. Thus, you should always plan for at least three or four seasons’ worth of possible character arcs.
If things go well, there’s no reason to think that The Wednesday won’t be renewed for Season 3 and even Season 4 in the future. The show is potentially on track to become the most watched Netflix series of all time.
